Red Bulls Young Designated Player Eligible for Paraguay, Earns First International Call Up

HARRISON, N.J. (May 23, 2018) – FIFA has approved New York Red Bulls Designated Player Alejandro “Kaku” Romero Gamarra’s one-time switch to the Paraguayan National Team. Kaku was named today to Paraguay’s camp for an international friendly against Japan on June 12 in Austria.

Kaku, who appeared for his native Argentina as a youth international through the Under-20 World Cup, draws Paraguayan lineage through his parents.

The Red Bulls signed Kaku as a Designated Player in February after completing a transfer from CA Huracan in Argentina. Since arriving, the playmaker has delivered three goals and leads MLS with nine assists in nine games played.

Kaku will depart to join Gustavo Morinigo’s squad on Monday, June 4 and return to New York following the match on June 12.
